Lieutenant Colonel Taurus D. Smith, Professor of Military Science

LTC Taurus D. Smith was born in Hampton, VA.  He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, Tallahassee, Florida.  He also holds a Master’s Degree in Procurement and Acquisition Management from Webster University.  He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Armor branch, detailed from the Quartermaster Corps in December 1998.     

His initial assignment was with Apache Troop, 1st Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment (2ACR) where he served as Scout Platoon Leader for 16 months.  Next, he was selected to serve as the 1st Squadron Support Platoon Leader for 16 months.  His last assignment in 2ACR was with the Regimental Support Squadron, where he served as the Regimental Petroleum Supply Officer.  After graduating from the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course, he was assigned to the 24th Corps Support Group (CSG) as the S3 Operations officer and later the Group Assistant S4.  Following his assignment with 24th CSG, he was then selected to activate and command the Forward Support Company Commander in support of 3-7 Infantry, 3rd Infantry Division.  After his successful combat tour (Iraq) and 25 month command, he was assigned as a multifunctional, tactical logistics instructor at the Army Logistics Management College’s Captain’s Career Course. Upon completion of that assignment, he was assigned to the Republic of Korea and served as the 501st Sustainment Brigade Support Operations Plans Chief.  He volunteered to remain in Korea and was selected to serve as the Battalion Support Operations Officer and subsequently Executive Officer for 194th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion.  LTC Smith’s last assignment was with United States Army Central in the G4 as the Deputy Chief of Operations and subsequently the Executive Officer to Brigadier General Austin.  LTC Smith’s current position is the Professor of Military Science, Alabama A&M University, Normal, AL.

His military education includes: the Armor Officer Basic Course, Scout Platoon Leader Course, Supply and Services Management Course, Combined Logistics Captains Career Course and Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Petroleum Officer Course, Support Operations Course (Phases I & II), Airborne School, Aerial Delivery Management Officer Course (Rigger School), the Multinational Logistics Course, Joint Course on Logistics, Command and General Staff College, Lean Six Sigma – Green Belt, and Operational Contract Support Course.

His awards include: the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4th Award), Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Medal, the National Defense Service Ribbon, and the Army Service Ribbon Parachutist Badge, the Rigger Badge, and the Combat Action Badge.
